With the ceilings hitting just under 7 feet, turning this space into a home gym was a prime solution. The basement was completely open with concrete floors, open ceilings and lights on one side by the work bench.
I wired and installed 10 can lights to give the basement much needed light. To cover up the mess, I installed 2x2 beams across the joists and nailed 1x6 trim to create rectuangular ceiling panel rigs. using 1/4 drywall, I cut out each ceiling panel, enabling a drop ceiling effect with asethetics. This came in handy as all the wiring and plumbing remained accessible in the ceiling.
I finished by enclosing loose wires, and placing gym floor down finished with vynl flooring up the stairs. To make it areal gym, we hung wall mirrors and filled the room with the gym equipment we need.

Completed with new can-lighting and flexible ceilings, hand made to the space ensuring that all panels were removable making all wiring and plumbing permanent accessible. In addition, 8 wall mirrors were installed, in addition to gym floor matts and vinyl flooring around the perimeter and up the staircase. Add a fresh coat of paint and all the equipment you need and it's a place of worship.
We used to laugh that this basement was part of the movie SAW when we first moved in. All concrete floors and only one side with working lights. It was completely open, outside of 3 left over kegs, so we decided to make ourselves an at-home gym.
